The research pack: loan data for one industry and state
The research pack is not ready yet. Join the waitlist for news.
The planned Ownerbound research pack would put public SBA acquisition loan data for one industry and state into files you can open and sort.
It is general data. It would not advise on any specific deal.
Planned contents (not final)
- Acquisition loan table by fiscal year
- Loan size spread, including the median and the middle half
- Term and rate summary
- Seasoned charge-offs compared with the national rate, where enough loans exist
- Lender activity counts
- County counts
- Census business counts and annual payroll
- Files in CSV and XLSX
- A version date, such as "SBA data as of Jun 30, 2026"
Good to know
The pack would use the same public data as the snapshots. It would add more detail and files you can work in.
Cells with fewer than 10 loans would stay hidden. Charge-off rates would need 30 or more seasoned loans.
A sample of the data
This snapshot shows part of what the planned pack would cover.
| Measure | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Acquisition loans | 73 | Number of 7(a) loans labeled Change of Ownership, FY2020 to Jun 30, 2026. Cancelled loans are removed. |
| Loans by year |
| Acquisition loans by SBA fiscal year. FY2026 covers Oct 1 to Jun 30 only. Years with fewer than 10 loans are hidden. |
| Median approved amount | $755,000 | The middle approved amount. Half of the loans were approved for more and half for less. Gross approved amounts, rounded to $1,000. |
| Middle half of approved amounts | $300,000 to $1,150,000 | The range that holds the middle half of approved amounts, from the lower quarter mark to the upper quarter mark. |
| Total approved | $67.1M | The sum of all gross approved loan amounts in this cell. These are approved amounts, not money paid out. Rounded to $0.1 million. |
| Term | 120 months | The median loan term, in months. |
| Rate | 9.25% | The median initial interest rate. |
| Rate type | All variable | How many of these loans have variable rates, rounded to the nearest 10%. |
| Seasoned charge-off rate | Not enough loans to show this number. | The share of loans approved in FY2020 to FY2022 that SBA lists as charged off, counted by loans. Charged off is a loan status, not a business closing. Older loans have had more time to be charged off. With under 100 seasoned loans, this shows a band. With under 30, it is hidden. |
| National charge-off rate | About 2% Estimate | The same measure across all industries. It is about 2% by count. |
| Lenders in the SBA file | 28 | The number of distinct lenders that hold these loans in the SBA file. The file lists the current lender, which may not be the original lender. Counts are not a ranking or a recommendation. |
| Lenders holding the most loans | Live Oak Banking Company 17 | Lenders that hold 10 or more loans in this cell, by count. Names come from public data. |
| Top counties | Dallas 12 | Counties with the most acquisition loans in this cell. Counties with fewer than 10 loans are hidden. |
| Franchise share | Not enough loans to show this number. | The share of acquisition loans in this cell that were for franchises. Hidden when fewer than 10 loans were for franchises. |
Local business locations (Census 2023)
| Business locations | 8,966 | Census County Business Patterns 2023: business locations, employees and annual payroll for this industry and area. Census adds small amounts of noise. |
|---|---|---|
| Employees | 105,623 | |
| Annual payroll | $7.38B | |
| Business locations by employee count |
| |
| Business locations with 10 to 49 employees | 1,749 | Census count of local business locations in that size band. |
Data as of: Jun 30, 2026.
